Golf Classic to benefit high-risk kids in Riverside

Riverside, CA April 29, 2014— The first annual Riverside Salvation Army Golf Classic will take place on May 19th, 2014 at the Victoria Club, with a four person scramble format. Proceeds from the event will benefit at-risk children in The Salvation Army’s new after school program, Kid’s Café.
Kid’s Café was created for children who have no place to go after school while their parents are still at work. There is no charge for the program, which runs Monday – Friday from 3 – 6 p.m. for children in 1st through 6th grades. The Salvation Army program offers homework help and computer labs, snacks, organized recreation, games, art, life skills and spiritual guidance. There are currently 25 children in the program with plans to expand to 75.
Kid’s Café is completely funded by donations, so the goal of The Salvation Army Advisory Board’s first Golf Classic is to generate money to enable more children to have a safe place to go after school.
“This Golf Classic will help so many at-risk kids in Riverside,” says Captain Keith Bottjen of The Salvation Army Riverside Corps. “ I love seeing the children’s faces light up as they complete their homework and we are already seeing dramatic improvement in their grades. One mom came in last week telling us her child needed this so very much and she started crying. That’s the impact! “
