When tragedy tears a mother's life apart
A year and a half ago, Candice was a happy mother of two and engaged to be married. But when her fiancé died in a tragic accident, she was devastated.
He was the family breadwinner. Without him, Candice struggled to feed their two children. To add to the heartbreak, it was just a few months before Christmas. That’s what brought her to The Salvation Army.
Thanks to your generosity, this grieving mom received food and much-needed emotional support. We also “adopted” her family for Christmas and provided gifts.
The outpouring of support touched Candice’s heart. “I started crying as soon as I opened the box,” she says. “There were multiple outfits for my kids. They even had cleaning supplies for my house and an outfit for me. Without The Salvation Army, Christmas definitely wouldn’t have happened.”
Today, Candice is in college, working toward a degree in art therapy so she can support her family. “I would love to work with children with disabilities,” she says. “I used to want to be a radiologist, but through all of this, it made me have a change of heart. I want to help others the way I’ve been helped.”
