When Chaunte's child was seriously ill

Jan 31, 2018 | by The Salvation Army

For Chaunte, family is everything.  That’s why she always worked hard to provide for her two children.

But when her 13-year-old daughter had to be repeatedly hospitalized due to a serious illness, this loving mom left her job so she could be there for her.

Chaunte survived on her savings as long as she could.  But soon, she became homeless.  With no family or friends nearby who could help her, she turned to The Salvation Army.

We provided her and her family with safe housing.  “Without this program, I don’t know where I would be,” she says.  “I’ve learned patience here.  This can happen to anybody.”

Chaunte is also deeply grateful for all the help given to her daughter.  “The staff is really supportive – making sure she’s taking her medication and asking how she’s doing, if she needs anything.”

With help from her Salvation Army counselor, Chaunte found a new job.  Now she looks forward to moving into her own home.  Thank you for helping her family make it through this difficult time!
