Tears of joy at Christmas

Aug 26, 2016 | by The Salvation Army

Latysha is a single mom of two children, Candace and Josh, works part time, and struggles to keep up with basic expenses like rent, utilities and child care – and still provide her children with nutritious meals. But thanks to friends like you, this mother and her growing children can count on having enough to eat. “Every month I’m blessed with food from The Salvation Army,” she says. Thanksgiving and Christmas have been especially difficult for Latysha’s family. But with support from donors like you, The Salvation Army has been able to help.

On Thanksgiving, we provided a turkey and all the trimmings. The family really appreciated it. But it was our assistance at Christmas that really touched Latysha's heart. Candace and Josh each received brand new donated toys and clothes along with a special Christmas dinner. They were overjoyed. “I was in tears,” recalls Latysha. When the kids opened the gifts, they asked where they came from. “The Salvation Army,” she told them.

On top of that, Latysha, Candace and Josh are grateful for activities they participate in and the music lessons the kids have received through The Salvation Army. “They each play two or three instruments,” Latysha says with a smile. Thanks to people like you who care, this family has hope for the future. “The fact that people donate makes me so joyful,” Latysha says. “They have compassion, love and concern for people in the community.”
