Richard left addiction and prison behind
Richard had a rough childhood. He only had a third grade education. When he was a kid, Richard picked cotton and potatoes to make money for his family. In his teen years, Richard got involved in drugs. Sadly, this led to dangerous mistakes and a long prison sentence. But he learned about the errors of his ways.
After serving his prison term, Richard had a chance to start over. He was determined to change. Luckily he found a place at The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Center and thrived there. Thanks to donors like you, he’s been able to stay away from drugs, learn life skills, find jobs and save money.
With his time behind bars, Richard has missed out on the latest changes in technology, like computers, but he’s catching up. “It’s all going to come together in God’s time,” says Richard. “I’m trying to do what I need to do and hope that He keeps guiding me down the right road.” Richard has been working to turn his life around for the past five years since he got out of prison. Now he gives back by using lessons learned from his wrong turns to help young people find a better path.
“I know I need to be connected with God and talk to these youngsters about trying to do the right thing,” he says. And Richard is very grateful to donors like you. “If I hadn’t had The Salvation Army’s support, I would be back on the streets today,” he says. “They try and help people, feed people and keep kids going down the right path.
