Love at first sight

Jan 31, 2018 | by The Salvation Army

When 83-year-old Robert went to The Salvation Army’s senior lunch program last March, he just expected to receive a nutritious meal.

Instead, he found a wife.

It all started when he noticed an attractive woman sitting at one of the dining room tables.  She was speaking Spanish, so he walked over and greeted her using the only Spanish words he knew.  “Yo te quiero mucho siempre.”  (I love you so much always.)

The chemistry between Robert and Maria was instantaneous.  Two days later they went out on their first date.  Two months later, they got married.

She loves that he is always making jokes.  He loves that she is so good to him.

“I never think I marry again,” says Maria, who was a widow for 17 years.  “God made possible to marry Robert, to meet him.  I am so happy.  We have a lot of things in common and the most important is we love each other.”

Stories like this wouldn’t be possible without your support.  Thank you for changing lives in so many wonderful ways!

Your generosity gave Robert and Maria a bright new future together.  “I want everyone to be so happy,” says Maria.
