Farewell to Captains Monica & Robert Covert

Jun 25, 2020

By Mimi Williams

Captains Monica and Robert Covert celebrated a bittersweet goodbye among their staff, friends and family. After 5
years of serving San Diego in God’s light at the Centre City Corps downtown, the Captains are preparing for their
new roles at The Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters in Carson, California. Captain Monica will serve as
Divisional Women’s Ministries Secretary and Retired Officers’ Representative while Captain Robert will hold the
positions of Divisional Director of Men’s Ministries, Divisional Kettle Coordinator and VAVS Representative.

The Coverts have touched the lives of many through their ministry work as well as feeding the homeless, senior nutrition
and other services aimed at empowering the community.

“This has been our mountain top experience.” said Captain Robert. “The friendships made here are ones that will last a
lifetime. You all hold a special place in our hearts.”

Even though they are leaving, the Captains are at ease
knowing that God’s plan includes Lieutenant Jeremy
Alexander as the next officer at Centre City Corps.
Captain Monica says, “We have no second thoughts or doubts
of the love that Lieutenant Jeremy has for this
ministry.”

Staff and friends brought parting gifts to the Captains including a photographic portrait book of San Diego signed by
the entire staff, a gift card, and a hand-made tissue box cover lovingly made in the shape of a chapel. Laughs and
stories were shared as they enjoyed mini bundt cakes and ice cream.

Kaye Cardall, Centre City Director echoed a sentiment felt by all. “I just want to thank both of you for allowing me
into this family. You guys will never, ever be forgotten”.
