A Family Finds New Hope

Dec 15, 2016 | by The Salvation Army

Sarah left an abusive relationship and is now raising her four children, ages 3, 11, 13, and 18, on her own. Life was made that much harder when she was diagnosed with lupus. This disease makes it difficult for her to work full-time. "I'm sick," says Sarah. "I can't give the kids everything I'd like to."

Sarah came to The Salvation Army for basics like food and diapers. Thanks to friends like you, she received so much more. "At the end of the month sometimes, I have no food, and The Salvation Army is able to help me feed my kids," says Sarah. "They give you faith and hope."

They receive assistance at Easter, Thanksgiving and with school supplies and scholarships for Salvation Army camp. At Christmas, with the help of volunteers and donations, the kids were given clothes and gifts they'd asked for - including a special pair of pink cowboy boots her daughter had dreamed of. "She wore them everywhere, " says Sarah.

Sarah is a firm believer in giving back. She and her children volunteered to help with The Salvation Army Angel Tree at a local mall. "Sometimes we make meals for the homeless," she says. She wants her kids to understand there are others out there who need help too.

Now, Sarah hopes to get a part-time job and one day find a house they can live in. "I want my kids to know how important their education is and to never give up," she says. "Keep your faith. God has a plan."
